About the Community of Expertise in Educational Technology
(CEET).
The Community of Expertise in Educational Technologies (CEET) is an
online community of practice fostering expertise in the use of
educational technologies in K-12 education. CEET aggregates
information and resources on how existing and emerging educational
technologies can support instructional practice and improve student
engagement, satisfaction, and achievement. CEET supports BC
educators in understanding and using these emerging educational
technologies.
Although created and funded by the British Columbia Ministry of
Education, CEET belongs to its members. It is the members who give
the community its life and value, and they who will decide its
direction and future.
CEET was launched in pilot form in the Fall of 2008, as a place
where a core group of distributed learning teacher mentors would
help novices learn how to use the new Web 2.0 tools in their online
teaching practice. Although this did happen in a limited way, CEET
quickly grew in unforeseen directions and became a launch-point for
a wide range of professional learning activities for all
teachers.
A central hub, or launch page for CEET (ceet.ca), directs members to the rapidly
expanding components of the community. These include the main
community of practice site on the Ning platform (CEET Ning), a
Twitter feed (CEET Twitter), and a Moodle server (CEET Moodle). We
are also working on CEET Second Life and a CEET Facebook Group.
As the community moves into the next stage of development, we are
collaborating with the Computer Using Educators of BC (CUE BC), a Provincial
Specialist Association (PSA) of the British Columbia Teachers’
Federation (BCTF) dedicated to promoting the educational uses of
computer technology.
